World of Warships 10th Anniversary: Is It Worth Coming Back?
Informational blog
Hi, today we will be discussing whether World of Warships is now worth coming back to. I took a few months’ break, but after returning I want to share the current state of the game and what has changed.
Event - Decade at Sea
This year’s 10th Anniversary event is very generous. At the heart of the celebration is the Grand Voyage. By logging in and completing simple daily missions, you collect Voyage Tokens. These tokens act as the event’s main currency and can be exchanged for valuable resources such as Doubloons or Steel.
- Daily Rewards: Play at least one battle per day to claim tokens and bonuses.
- Accumulation: Consistent participation can net you tens of thousands of tokens over the course of the event.
- High-Value Exchange: Tokens can be converted directly into premium resources at a 1:1 rate, making this one of the most rewarding events in recent memory.
This means you can get up to 32,000 Doubloons or Steel simply by playing one battle every day.
Additionally, for 10,000 Festive Tokens, you can obtain the Tier X Japanese heavy cruiser Kushiro. I’ll make a review of her once I add her to my port.
Good changes
A big update came with 14.8, reworking how module damage works. Previously, modules like secondaries, AA guns, and turrets could be destroyed permanently or break over and over again. Now:
- Modules can no longer be permanently destroyed. They enter either a Damaged or Critically Damaged state and recover after a short time.
- Critically Damaged modules cannot be repaired instantly, but restore automatically after a delay.
- Reload for main guns or torpedoes is now paused instead of fully reset when affected.
- Module HP is no longer randomized—values are fixed, making outcomes more predictable.
Overall, the rework reduces frustration, keeps ships functional for longer, and makes module interactions clearer and fairer.
The bad
While the anniversary and technical updates are positive, some long-standing gameplay issues remain. Battles especially Randoms often feel more passive than before. Carriers and submarines contribute heavily to this: when a CV is present or a submarine appears on your flank, pushing aggressively becomes very risky. This encourages players to sit back, which slows the pace of games.
For some captains, this defensive meta feels repetitive and less rewarding. The lack of consistent opportunities to make bold plays can lead to boredom and, over time, frustration. It’s a major reason why many players take breaks or step away from the game altogether.
Conclusion
Despite some ongoing issues with passivity in Randoms, World of Warships is still very much worth playing especially now during the 10th Anniversary. The Decade at Sea event is one of the most rewarding in the game’s history, offering valuable resources, premium ships like Kushiro, and plenty of reasons to log in daily.
If you’re a new or returning player, there’s no better time to set sail again. I’d love to hear your thoughts: do you think the game is improving, or are you waiting for more changes? Share your opinions in the comments.
